Kennedy Catholic Sophomore Layke Fields Leads Team to Pennsylvania State Title

Farrell, PA: Layke Fields is a prime example of a student-athlete that's a program changing player.
The Kennedy Catholic Class of 2025 center has helped the Golden Eagles get back on top of the Pennsylvania girls' basketball division.
Layke was the Player of the Game in the state final, as the Golden Eagles beat Homer-Central 65-45 in the Class 2A title game. She had 23 points and 11 rebounds, as Kennedy Catholic ended its season 29-4, with 27 straight victories to end the year.

Fields’ Head Coach, Justin Magestro, watched other teams try to slow down his sophomore star all season, but it just never happened. She ended the year averaging 19.3 points and 10.9 rebounds.
“Our kids know, we’re gonna feed (Fields) the ball when we can,” Magestro said to Dan Hiner of the Meadville Tribune after the title win. “Inside, out. If they double or triple her, she’s great at passing out of the post, as you saw. If they triple team her, I don’t think there’s a team in the state that can stop her — (Class) 1 to 6.”

“She is as good a sophomore as there is in the country. If you watched her lead Kennedy to the state title this year, you saw what she can do against elite teams in the final. That 23-point, 11-rebound showing, when getting doubled almost every trip, proves that she is already an elite player at 16-years-old.
“What is she going to be able to do next year, as Kennedy gets even better? Fields is going to be on the radar of nearly every major D1 program in the country. She is that good.”
