HUN Raider JT Goodman Commits to UPenn and the CSFL

Howell, NJ: The college recruiting process for most high school athletes, is a difficult one to navigate.  Some athletes have Power 5 Conference and NFL or bust aspirations.  Some are simply looking for that ever elusive scholarship to save on the cost of college tuition, which can be hundreds of thousands of dollars.

And then there are some that are really looking to use the sport that they play, as a means to get into an academic environment that maybe they could NOT have gotten into without the sport.

Enter JT Goodman, the Collegiate Sprint Football League and the University of Pennsylvania.

Sprint Football is a full-contact, intercollegiate, varsity sport, there are currently nine teams playing in the CSFL: Alderson Broaddus University, Army West Point, Caldwell University, Chestnut Hill College, Cornell University, Mansfield University, the U.S. Naval Academy, the University of Pennsylvania and St. Thomas Aquinas College.

When JT Goodman came to the Hun School of Princeton, it was for two reasons.

He wanted to come to one of the best academic preparatory schools in the country to prepare himself for the rigors of elite level university work, and he also wanted to learn under the best football coaching staff in the nation.

Goodman averaged 8.8 yards per carry for the Raiders in 2022, but more importantly, he helped lead the Hun to a second-straight 9-0 campaign: Goodman was 18-0 in his two years on campus.

Goodman also got a chance daily to practice, play, and train with a roster full of Division 1 talent, which should make his transition to college that much easier.

He might not need much help to do that in the classroom: Goodman has a 4.95 GPA after a 5.04 last year and has been on the High Honor Roll for his whole high school career. He strives for a successful career in finance and with his commitment to higher education, he is well on the way to doing just that.

And when JT and his family examined his opportunities at the collegiate level, they saw the CSFL as a great channel to ensure admission at the highest level of academia … the Ivy League and the University of Pennsylvania.  Smart kid.

Here is a scouting report on Goodman:

"You are not going to find anyone stronger than him at his size. He is 5-10, 190 pounds, and can bench well over 300 pounds right now, squat about 400, and deadlift 500+ pounds. When he is on the field, Goodman sees the holes well out of the backfield and is an expert at reading the game on defense. He has an explosive first step and is just so decisive.

"He is going to be a perfect player in the Penn system, albeit he’ll have to drop about 10 lbs. Also, he is just such a great kid and one of the smarter players to have come through the Howell and Hun campuses. I am excited to see what he can do at the next level, but I know he will be ready to go from the first day."
