Everything in Place for Soph DL Nicco Aquilone, to Play at the College Level

Just a sophomore at St. John Vianney in High School in Holmdel (NJ), now it's just a matter of his body filling out to be able to compete at that level.

Standing at an already muscular 6-0, and 195 pounds, Aquilone plays for the Lancers' JV team. A multi-faceted athlete, Aquilone plays on both side of the ball at defensive end, wide receiver and tight end.

"Right now, he's undersized to play defensive end or linebacker in college,'' said Richard Aquilone, Nicco's father. "But as a true sophomore, he’s still has a lot of room to grow Nicco works hard and we project him to grow to 6-2, 6-3 and be well over 200 pounds, which means he could easily compete on the Division 2 or 3 level, and who knows … he may find that right fit at the D1 level too.''

Aquilone, who works out with former NFL player and personal trainer Val Barnaby, has good numbers. He’s bench pressed 200 pounds and squatted 315. He runs a 4.8 40, he has leapt 9 feet in the broad jump and has a vertical leap of 32 inches. He gets the value of education and working hard to bring his current 3.4 GPA North.

"This is a growing year,'' said Richard, a resident of Hazlet. "Next August we will see where we stand and take it from there. Right now I would say he is definitely a defensive player.''

College scouts love athletes who play other sports. With that being said, Aquilone fits the bill as plays he varsity volleyball and basketball. Already able to dunk, last year he played JV basketball as a freshman and this year he's expected to be promoted to the varsity.

Scouting Report: "Aquilone is a tireless worker on and off the football field. His consistency in working with constantly working with Barnaby on his agility, size and speed will undoubtedly pay dividends. On the field, he is athletic with good hands and good field vision. Now it's just a matter of his body filling out.''
