Fort Wayne, IN: The best thing a high school athlete can do in their sport is keep getting better.

Maybe it is only one percent better per day, or maybe a player can make a huge jump between their sophomore and junior seasons: whatever it is, progress is massive.

For South Side High School of Fort Wayne, Indiana Class of 2023 guard Omarion Washington, that is EXACTLY what he has done over the last two years.

Washington played in a handful of varsity games as a sophomore for the Archers, and averaged 4.4 points. But he worked hard in the offseason, and came back to the court for his junior year as a new player. Washington dominated for South Side, leading the team with a 17.4 points per game average. Maybe more importantly, he helped turn an 8-14 team into a 14-11 squad that won a state playoff game for the first time since 2018.

That is leadership.

Washington is back for his senior year, and there are high expectations that this will be an even better season for the Archers, and for Washington.

In the fall, Washington is a 6-3, 170-pound wide receiver for the football team. Off the court, Washington has been starring as well.

Here is what coaches have said about the guard:

“You can see the massive improvement from Omarion between his sophomore and junior years. He has put in a lot of work–not just on the court, but in the weight room–to make himself a much better player. As a coach, you love to see that. It is one of the key reasons why the team improved six wins, and why there are a lot of high expectations around the upcoming season. Omarion is one of those kids that make the whole room better with his leadership and energy.”
