Aidan Wilmot Captains Manalapan Lacrosse to 3-0 Start, While Starring Off The Field as Well

APRIL 20, 2023

MANALAPAN, NJ: It’s been a very good school year for Manalapan Class of 2024 two-sport star Aidan Wilmot.

Aidan has been a varsity football player since his sophomore year and a starter on varsity lacrosse since his freshman year. He was recently named captain of the Manalapan Braves lacrosse team for the 2023 season.

And it came at a perfect time of his high school career: the Braves have been building toward this campaign for many years, and their record now reflects that sort of commitment.

Manalapan beat a very good Middletown North team 11-4 to move to 3-0 and set itself up for a run at some hardware for the first time in program history. Wilmot, who plays defense and long stick middie, has been right at the center of this three-year build, and continues to lead the way for the Braves.

“I was named captain at the start of the year, which was kind of a big deal for me,” Wilmot said. “I really feel like I’ve stepped into a big leadership role this year. Most of us juniors who’ve been on varsity have also been playing together since we were nine years-old. I feel like this is truly our year. Because we were so young in previous years, we had just a little success, but now that we have matured, I believe this is going to be a big season for us."

“We are also going to be able to help all the younger kids that are on the verge of making varsity–or about to be a starter–for the rest of this year.”

Wilmot also plays defense and long stick middie for Mad Dog Club Lacrosse. In January 2023, Wilmot joined his club team at the Sandstorm Lacrosse Festival in Indio, California where he started every game and rarely came off the field.

But what really impresses about this young man is his commitment to excellence in the classroom and outside of school. The junior has a 4.8 GPA and is one of the best students at Manalapan. Wilmot takes multiple AP classes and is spoken about by his teachers with reverence - just like on the field, he leads with a quiet confidence in the classroom. Wilmot is a two-time recipient of the All- Academic Team - Highest GPA Award for both his sophomore and junior years.

Wilmot balances his schoolwork and athletics skillfully, while finding time to work as a waiter and coach multiple youth teams. He even picked up a community award for all the service work he does.

Wilmot is the defensive coach for the sixth grade Manalapan travel team, and also helps children as young as four-years-old learn the game that he loves with the Little Laxers program.

Here is what a coach said about Wilmot:

“Parents have come up to me and asked ‘What does Aidan think about a certain situation? Because my son thinks the world of him.’ He leads by example…soft spoken, but the unquestioned leader out there.

“When you see the positions he plays in the two sports - middle linebacker and long stick/defense - it shows how much faith the coaching staff has in him. He is going to be a big time player in college with his size and speed, along with his leadership abilities. Wherever he lands, his coaches will love what he can do for the program, because I have seen it firsthand.”
