Record-Setting National Champion Jayden Thrower Gearing Up For Run at Texas State Title

Record-Setting National Champion Jayden Thrower Doesn't Disappoint in Run at Texas State TitleFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 21. 2023 Contact@GoMVB.com There are not too many high school track and field athletes around the country that had a more impressive freshman campaign than Jayden Thrower. The Class of 2025 Barbers Hill High School (TX) three-sport athlete–Thrower also plays football and basketball for the Eagles made a name for himself in 2022. We should start with his school record in the triple jump, which he set at just 15-years-old. Thrower posted a best jump of 48’3” to set the new mark, which is going to be shattered by the time the sophomore leaves campus in a couple years. Here is a list of Thrower’s honors from last season, and it is long:

  1. First place in the long jump and triple jump at Districts

  2. First place at Regionals (48’2”) and fourth in long jump

  3. Third place at 21-5A State Meet in triple jump

  4. Two record-setting first place finishes at the T.A.F.T. State Meet But that was just a start for Thrower: he finished first in the Regional AAU meet in both the long jump and the triple jump, which earned him an invite to the AAU Junior Olympics in Greensboro, North Carolina. Thrower then went out and won a national title in the triple jump (47’11”) and in the process became a Junior Olympian. “I want to be the best version of myself,” Thrower said. “I wanted to build on that summer. I am trying to build my future and have a great life, so I am trying to build on that through track and field.” All of these honors led to two more for Thrower: Barbers Hill High School Spring Awards Freshman of the Year, and VYPE Newcomer of the Year. Right now, Thrower is getting ready for another packed period of meets, but he has never let that get in the way of his work in the classroom: he has a 3.7 GPA and rising and enjoys school as much as he does athletics. He has made the National Honor Society, and is taking AP classes, and wants to be an anesthesiologist. Thrower’s father, Gary Raymond who was an elite athlete growing up has been his coach and has him on the path to life-long success. “When other kids are out there playing Fortnite, Jayden is working hard at practice or with his schoolwork,” Raymond said. “The thing that I am most impressed with is that he is so good at balancing: he is taking all AP classes and can also be a three-sport athlete.” While Thrower is very successful in the triple jump, he is also a team player, helping the team pick up points all over the track. “I do the long jump as well, and the 110 and 300 hurdles,” Thrower said. Thrower is targeting a new school record in the coming weeks. “Fifty is my next target,” Thrower said. “I feel like it is so close. I feel like I could get that at the next track meet. I am not there yet, but it is definitely coming. It feels really close.” Very close - here's how Thrower did at Districts where he didn't disappoint:

  5. 1st in the Triple Jump - 46 Feet 1 inches (SR)

  6. 2nd in the Long Jump- 22 Feet 8 inches (PR)

  7. 3rd in the 110 Hurdles - 15.33 (PR)

  8. 5th in the 300 Hurdles -44.01 Jayden also helped Barbers advance to Regionals in the Long Jump and Triple Jump and achieved a new PR in the 110:

  9. Long Jump 22’5 - 4th

  10. Triple Jump 46’8 - 2nd
