Bensalem, PA: To say that the Pennington boys’ basketball team was floundering early in the 2021-2022 campaign might be putting it a little lightly.

The Red Hawks started the season 1-8 before the Holiday break, and something had to change.

Enter Class of 2025 point guard Dwayne “DJay” Snead Jr.

The freshman was inserted into the lineup after the break, and suddenly, Pennington caught fire on the court. The Red Hawks won nine of their next 12 games, and finished the season at 11-13, to set up what looks to be a big 22-23 season full of expectations for the young team.

Snead Jr. is part of a core of underclassmen that will look to bring Pennington back to the top of Mercer County and Prep B in New Jersey. The guard will get the keys to the offense next year, and the Red Hawks look to be in good hands.

Off the court, Snead Jr. has a 3.75 GPA, and will continue to excel in the academically rigorous Pennington school program.

Here is a scouting report on Snead Jr. from an opposition coach:

“He is going to be a good one. He is already on the radar at some of the elite camps, and with that team next year, Snead is going to be able to showcase his talents. They have some bigs coming in, and already have Destine Evans and Brandon Russell, who are both freshmen as well, to build around.

“Snead is quick, is going to put some bulk on his frame in the next year, and will be a nightmare to deal with for teams in New Jersey. I think he can up his scoring a little next season with teams focused on stopping the inside game, but he can also pick up about 15 assists a game just finding his bigs. He is going to put up big time numbers in 22-23.”
