Manalapan Signal Caller Matthew Grzejka Picks Up an Offer After Solid Season

Manalapan NJ: Manalapan went 3-7 this year, with five of those losses coming by a combined 20 points. The Braves were snake bitten in October, with 17-14, 14-7, and 10-7 losses, the last of which came in the first round of the NJSIAA sectional tournament.

But for senior QB Matthew Grzejka, it may go down as a season of mixed feelings. Firstly, in a fierce pre-season battle for the starting role, Grzejka was edged out and took the role of back up. But it wasn’t long before the coaching staff made some adjustments in their thinking and in a critical drive against Donovan Catholic, Grzejka showed some sort of poise to earn him the start for the rest of the year. And while his team did not win as many games as they would have liked, he did pick up an offer from Kings College and a host of others began to show interest, including Hartwick College, Fairleigh Dickenson, and Wilkes University.

Right now, the senior is trying to finish out his academic career strongly: Grzejka had a 3.57 GPA coming into his senior year, and has a chance to bump that closer to a 4.0 in the coming months. Grzejka is also hard at work in the weight room, getting stronger and helping the next group of players get ready for 2023.

Here is a scouting report on the QB from a Shore Conference coach:

“I would like to see what Gzejka could do with a more diverse talent pool around him. I think he is one of those players that might get to college and blossom in a system designed around his talent and with some big lineman to protect him. I watched him play in a couple of Shore games this year and he was taking the offense up and down the field, but at the end of the drive, the team just couldn’t put up points. He has a good arm, and is going to get stronger at the next level.

“I would not be surprised if he has a pretty decent college career. Some team at the next level is going to take a chance on him, and Grzejka is going to reward that trust.”
